Privacy Policy

GoPlacesGuru is a navigation and travel app: it shows a live map, gives turn-by-turn walking and driving directions, plans routes, helps you discover nearby places, and — for electric-vehicle drivers — offers charge-aware routing and helps you find and reserve charging stations. This policy explains what data the app handles, why, and your choices.

This app is currently offered as a beta (via TestFlight and direct Android builds) and connects to a test (“staging”) environment.

1. Information we collect

We collect only what the app needs to work:

Precise location. With your permission, and only while the app is open (never in the background), we use your device location to show your position on the map and provide turn-by-turn directions. You can decline or revoke this in device settings; features that need it are then limited.
Photos and camera. When you choose to add a photo — for example to submit a charger or attach a document such as a licence, insurance, or registration — the app opens your camera or photo library at your request and uploads only the image(s) you select.
Account and sign-in information. When you sign in, our identity service processes your account identifier (such as an email or username) and authentication tokens to keep you signed in. Sign-in uses standard OpenID Connect.
Vehicle and trip details you enter. Information you provide — an EV profile, saved places, planned routes, or a charger submission — is stored to provide those features.
Diagnostics. If you leave crash/error reporting enabled (you can turn it off in Settings), we collect limited technical diagnostics to fix problems. This does not include the contents of your photos or precise location history.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising or cross-app tracking. The app does not use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA).

2. How we use information

show your location on the map and provide walking and driving directions;
plan routes and, for EV drivers, provide charge-aware routing and find/reserve chargers;
process charger submissions and documents you choose to upload;
authenticate you and keep your session secure;
diagnose crashes and improve reliability (if diagnostics are enabled).

3. Third parties that process data for these features

To provide core functionality, limited data is shared with service providers acting on our behalf or as independent controllers for the feature you use:

Routing/geocoding provider (HERE Technologies): origin and destination coordinates and routing queries are sent to calculate routes.
Map tiles (OpenStreetMap): map imagery is requested from the tile service; standard request metadata (such as IP address) is visible to that service, as with any web request.
Charging network (IRIS charging platform): when you view, submit, or reserve a charger, the relevant charger and reservation details are exchanged with the charging network.
Cloud hosting (Amazon Web Services): our backend and databases run on AWS.

We share personal information only as needed to provide the feature you use, to comply with law, or to protect our rights and users’ safety.

4. Data storage, retention, and security

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). Authentication tokens are stored in the device’s secure keystore (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore).
We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide the service and for legitimate business or legal purposes, then delete or de-identify it.
No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we use layered technical and organizational safeguards appropriate to the data.

5. Your choices and rights

Location and camera/photos: grant or revoke anytime in your device settings.
Diagnostics: turn crash/error reporting off in the app’s Settings.
Access and deletion: email privacy@iris-ev.com to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act; we honor applicable rights.

6. Children

GoPlacesGuru is not directed to children and is not intended for use by children under the age required by your local law (for example, under 13 in the U.S. or under 18 in India without parental consent). We do not knowingly collect data from such children.

7. International users

We operate in and transfer data to the United States and may process data in other regions where our providers operate. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above and, where appropriate, an in-app notice.
